    i am currently taking a class on Langston Hughes . I'm in the middle of writing a paper on the definition of double consciousness and how it relates to a certain character in Hughes' novel, Not Without Laughter. I googled 'double consciousness' and this blog came up... just wanted commend whoever is writing this blog and that I will be keeping up with it... thanks for sharing -samuel

    Kinda late on this, but yeah, good point. Reminds me of that Onion headline, something like, "America Hires Black Man to Spend Four Years Cleaning Up After Itself."

    What on earth is your point? Should the "working class people of color" have been ethnically cleansed, and the jobs given only to whites? Would that have made you happier? I doubt it.

    So, why are whites kept out of such jobs? Racism.

    By the way, why do you exploit DuBois' phrase and likeness? DuBois did not think of Hispanics as "persons of color," a term he used to refer only to blacks, and he used the phrase "double consciousness" in a manner antithetical to this blog. Have you even read the essay in question? Methinks not.

    Did the white kids harm anyone? Did they commit vandalism?
    Burglary? Riot? Randomly assault people, based on the color of their skin? No? Oh, they were guilty of having harmless, "spontaneous fun." Can't have that, can we?

    All your entry does is show, in the pettiest possible fashion, your hatred of whites. I understand: You're racist. Thanks for clearing up that matter.

    Oh, I see now. You guys aren't even black. I don't know what is worse: A traditional, black racist, or a non-black racist, who opportunistically apes traditional, black racists. That's one of those irresolvable, qualitative questions.
